Can I use my Tracfone SIM in an unlocked smartphone?

I’ve been using a Tracfone, but it doesn’t have all the web capabilities that I need, so I’ve been looking for smartphones. The only reason I want to get this one is because my mom won’t enter a contract, and I’m 16, so I can’t. If I put my Tracfone SIM into it, would it work? How many minutes would it use per megabyte? I can probably get a SIM for a cheaper network (I have those things lying around everywhere), but I already have this one set up with minutes on it.

I know for a fact that *some* sim cards can be put in a unlocked iPhone… I have had other sims that could not be used. The sim cards in the GSM Straight Talk phones will work in an unlocked phone too
